This year, after Apple announced the cancellation of the car-making plan, it finally made up its mind to allocate more energy to the AI project. The M3 MacBook Air just released and the upcoming iOS 18 correspond to Apple’s first answer sheet on the AI PC and AI mobile phone tracks respectively.
IOS 18 has not yet been released, and everyone can only guess Apple’s next move from many sources. However, judging from the performance of the released M3 MacBook Air, it seems that the number of AI computing cores, performance and even NPU of M3 chips are difficult to support Apple’s AI PC business in the face of the encirclement formed by a variety of AI PC competing products in the market. The new M3 MacBook Air was sold at a discount of $100 on Amazon only one month after it was put on the shelves.
However, the situation that M3 chip alone supports Apple AI PC is about to change: Apple M4 series chips may have to meet with you in advance. Mark Gurman, a reporter from Bloomberg, pointed out in the latest issue of Power On newsletter that Apple’s M4 chip is close to the mass production stage, and it will be loaded into the latest Mac devices as soon as the end of this year. The focus of this series of chips will be on improving the performance of handling AI tasks.
Considering that Apple released M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips in October last year, Mark Gurman predicted that Apple would also launch M4 series chips around October this year. Last year, M3 series chips were sought after by many consumers for their performance, dynamic cache, mesh coloring and rendering, and hardware-level ray tracing acceleration technology.
This year, the upgrade of M4 series chips will focus on the number of AI computing cores, efficiency and NPU. It is reported that the M4 series chips to be produced by Apple are expected to have at least three main models, namely, the low-end chip Donan, the mid-end chip Brava and the high-end chip Hidra. The above names are all code names, and the officially listed names are likely to follow the M4, M4 Pro, M4 Max and M4 Ultra of M3.
Not only that, M4 series chips will also cover the whole Mac product line. Among them, the new iMac, entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, high-end 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini models will be the first batch of MAC products equipped with M4 series chips, which are expected to be launched one after another from the end of this year to the beginning of next year.
In the first quarter of 2025, Apple will update the 13-inch and 15-inch M4 MacBook Air models, update the Mac Studio in the middle of the year, and update the Mac Pro in the third or fourth quarter.
Apple reorganized the Mac product line with M4 series chips, which has different significance for different products in the product line. For Mac mini, Mac Pro and Mac Studio, this is a rare intergenerational update. Previously, the latest models of the three products were only equipped with M2 chip, and their performance had already lagged behind other Mac products. Whether Apple directly skipped M3 chip and upgraded to M4 chip or inserted M3 chip into the original update rhythm step by step, with the current news, it is still impossible to draw a conclusion.
However, Lei Technology believes that according to Apple’s habit, it is not impossible for Apple to release M3 and M4 products at the same time, so the price of M4 products may hit a new high in this series.
For the newly upgraded M3 MacBook Air, it is expected that the M4 model released next year will exert great sales pressure on M3 model, and the shortened update time may make some consumers feel at ease as a "waiting party", and then make a decision after the release of M4 MacBook Air. This also means that M3 MacBook Air will accelerate the clearance and dumping of goods, which is expected to be greatly promoted at key promotion nodes such as 618.
According to the global PC sales in 2023 released by data research organization IDC, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the global PC shipments were about 259.5 million units, down 13.9% compared with 2022. Among them, Apple’s shipments ranked fourth, down 22.4% year-on-year. Although Apple’s shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023 improved, increasing by 10.1% year-on-year, from the annual data, Apple’s decline in the PC market is very obvious, and the decline rate far exceeds that of other PC manufacturers.
In fact, not only in the PC market, but also in other fields. A series of events such as the "Titan" project shelved for ten years, the iPad shipment was overtaken by Huawei tablet, the word-of-mouth of Vision Pro was extended, and the price of iPhone 15 series was successively reduced, which made Apple feel overwhelmed.
The outside world is generally not optimistic about Apple’s expectations, which is embodied in the investment market. As of the close of the US stock market on April 10, Apple’s share price has fallen by about 13% this year. It was not until the news that M4 series chips reorganized the Mac product line came out that Apple’s share price rose, with a total increase of more than 5% in two days.
It can be seen that the significance of AI Mac to Apple has far exceeded the scope of ordinary products. It represents the apple that the outside world wants to see more, and it also means that Apple has finally returned to the "right track" that the public thinks. Apple continues to iterate AI Mac products through M4 series chips. On the one hand, it can inject new power into the Mac product line whose shipments are already declining in 2023 and stimulate the sales of the Mac product line; On the other hand, AI PC has become the hottest topic in the PC market. Many PC manufacturers have either launched the first AI PC or are on the way to release it. If Apple keeps the iterative pace of the past few years, it is likely that the PC shipments in 2024 will further decline.
If we want to select the hottest keywords in the technology industry in 2024, Lei Technology believes that it is "AI". At present, AI has penetrated into all walks of life. AI mobile phone, AI TV, AI audio, AI kitchen appliances, AI music, AI headphones and the AI PC we are talking about today all represent the reconstruction of an industry by AI.
Microsoft and Glory have successively released their own AI PC products. Whether it is Microsoft’s Surface Pro 10 commercial version and Surface Laptop 6 commercial version, or the glory MagicBook Pro 16, they are all highly anticipated by their respective manufacturers.
In addition, Microsoft and Qualcomm jointly built the Snapdragon X Elite chip, and plan to launch the Surface product with this processor later this year. It is reported that Microsoft executives are very satisfied with the performance of Snapdragon X Elite chip, and think that it can surpass Apple’s MacBook Air equipped with M3 chip in terms of CPU performance and handling various AI tasks.
Lenovo also plans to officially release the first real AI PC on the 18th of this month. The biggest highlight of this product is that it will be equipped with a personal model AI TWIN (artificial intelligence twin) with a local knowledge base. According to the official introduction, the so-called AI TWIN means that by establishing a local knowledge base on the device, you can better understand the user’s behavior habits, even predict tasks according to your thinking mode, and find solutions on your own. It eventually evolved into a digital extension of users, just like twins.
It can be said that almost all PC manufacturers are going further and further on the road of AI PC. The addition of Apple’s AI Mac has made the already highly competitive PC industry more chaotic. Although Apple’s PC shipments in 2023 are not ideal, I believe that no PC manufacturer can ignore the influence of Apple products.
It’s better than Microsoft. The joint venture with Qualcomm to build Snapdragon X Elite chip only claims that its performance exceeds M3 MacBook Air. When Apple officially launches M4 series chips, perhaps the current PC industry will usher in a new round of reshuffle.
Apple’s "toothpaste-squeezing" update is nothing new. Although the performance of M3 series chips is basically improved by 10%-20% compared with M2 series, it obviously cannot meet the high expectations of some users for its performance. At present, we still don’t know how much the M4 series chips have improved compared with the M3 series chips. According to the news, the M4 series chips that are highly anticipated by Apple may really bring a good competitive advantage to Apple’s Mac product line.
However, no matter how superior the hardware conditions are, they can’t be separated from the landing scene after all, and users’ judgment on the quality of product experience comes more from practical applications. On M3 MacBook Air, we have seen the native functions of the system, such as real-time speech to text, translation, text prediction, visual understanding, and auxiliary functions, as well as the AI functions under the AI application ecology, such as Pixelmator Pro automatically enhancing photos and CapCut eliminating background noise in videos.
Although these functions are not amazing, they are quite satisfactory, but Lei Technology believes that AI Mac has not really played the traditional advantages of Apple’s ecology, such as using OS to connect different devices in series and build an application ecosystem, or launching AI OS for the era of generative AGI (universal artificial intelligence).
Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple had a discussion with Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, which are owned by Alphabet. It is not excluded to introduce one or more AI models into iOS 18 to provide the news of generating AI chat robot function for iOS system, and related news of cooperation with Baidu has also been reported in China.
If Apple is only an AI hardware provider, this win-win approach is obviously wise, but Apple is a technology company famous for its innovation and intelligence. In the short term, adopting alternatives may be acceptable to most users, but in the long run, this practice will always fall into the next ride. This is still the case in the mobile phone market. If Apple adopts a similar approach in the PC market, I believe that even if the M4 series chips with super performance are launched, it will be difficult to reverse the current unfavorable situation of Apple in the PC market.
Lei Technology still hopes that Apple can develop more eco-related practical applications on the new AI Mac and bring more AI usage scenarios to users. If it can really reach the above level, perhaps M4 series chips will lead Apple’s Mac product line to rebound.

In this forum, the "Top Ten Technical Trends in Life Sciences in 2019" was released, and technical trends such as CRISPR Toolkit, immunotherapy 2.0 and curing rare diseases, which have attracted much attention in life sciences, were selected.

Figure | Chen Xu, co-founder of DeepTech (source DeepTech)
Ten technical trends in life sciences in 2019:
1.CRISPR toolkit (CRISPR/Cas Toolkit)
More than 30 years ago, scientists found short palindrome repeats in bacteria at regular intervals, and found that such repeats can make bacteria immune to viruses. In 2001, Spanish scientist Francisco
Mojica officially named it CRISPR. In 2012, two female scientists, Jennifer Dudner, a structural biologist from the University of California, Berkeley,
Doudna) and Emmanuelle Elca Pontier of Umemo University in Sweden.
Charpentier) first applied CRISPR/Cas as a gene editing system. In 2013, George from Harvard Medical School
Church, Feng Zhang of the Bode Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Xie Lei of the Center for Systems and Synthetic Biology of the University of California, San Francisco (currently working at Stanford University) published three articles respectively, and successfully applied CRISPR/Cas system to mammalian cells.
The appearance of CRISPR/Cas9 has led to the explosive development of the whole field of gene editing. Nowadays, many scientists have further expanded CRISPR/Cas gene technology from a single "gene scissors" to a multifunctional "gene toolkit", showing an exciting application prospect based on the ever-expanding CRISPR/Cas system. Scientists predict that CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology will change the society in which we live and the creatures around us.
2.immunotherapy 2.0(Immunotherapy 2.0)
More than 100 years ago, William, an orthopedic surgeon in new york, USA
Coley accidentally discovered that the infection of streptococcus pyogenes after operation made the tumor of sarcoma patients subside, which opened the prelude of tumor immunotherapy, and William was therefore known as the father of tumor immunotherapy.
In 2018, the highly anticipated Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to American scientist James P. Allison and Japanese scientist Tasuku.
Honjo, they have made pioneering contributions to cancer immunotherapy. Nowadays, there are hundreds of companies that carry out cancer immunotherapy in the world, and more than a dozen immunotherapy products in China have applied for clinical trials. The related research results are frequently reported, and they are steadily moving towards the ultimate goal of curing cancer.
With the continuous breakthrough of basic and clinical research, our understanding of immunotherapy is also deepening, and the indications of immunotherapy are also expanding. From the initial main position of leukemia, to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and then to autoimmune diseases, immunotherapy has entered a more accurate, joint and broad-spectrum 2.0 era.
3. Cure of Rare Diseases
Under the condition of no error or off-target effect, it is expected to produce predictable beneficial effects by modifying mutant genes through gene editing technology, and even realize a one-time cure of some genetic diseases. Looking back on the development of gene therapy in the past 20 years, it was not until recent years that we really ushered in the era of gene therapy and saw the hope of curing rare diseases at one time.
Gene therapy (gene
As a subversive medical technology, therapy has realized that foreign normal genes can be introduced into target cells to correct or compensate diseases caused by defects and abnormal genes, thus achieving the purpose of treating congenital genetic diseases. Today, there are more than 2,500 clinical trials of gene therapy in the world, and gene therapy has become a battleground for global pharmaceutical R&D enterprises.
In mid-2018, the US FDA announced that it would continue to vigorously promote the development of gene therapy, and issued six new guidelines, which established a policy framework for how to develop gene products, review and reimbursement by regulatory agencies. At the same time, it also points out the hot fields of human gene therapy, including hemophilia, retinal diseases and rare diseases.
In 2019, the treatment of a variety of rare diseases will enter the clinic, and gene therapy will officially enter the stage of rapid development after nearly 20 years. More and more small and medium-sized gene therapy startups have broken ground, and traditional pharmaceutical giants such as Pfizer, Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline have also laid out the field of gene therapy. In China, some start-ups involved in gene editing and some gene therapy projects are expected to enter the clinical stage in 2019.
4. Gene Big Data
On April 15th, 2003, an international team of scientists from six countries announced the completion of the human genome map. This cost 3 billion dollars, and it is known as the "moon landing plan" of life science.
Our research project has laid a solid foundation for human beings to uncover their own mysteries. The drawing of the human genome map has become an important milestone in the history of human exploration of its own mysteries, and it is also considered by many analysts as a sign of the advent of the biotechnology century.
Only after more than ten years, with the development and maturity of technology, the cost of sequencing the whole genome has dropped from 30.
Billion dollars, gradually reduced to hundreds of thousands of dollars, thousands of dollars or even lower, there are also many consumer-oriented genetic testing products on the market. In addition to the well-known applications such as non-invasive prenatal genetic testing and neonatal genetic disease screening, individual genetic testing can also lock in individual pathological genes to achieve early prevention and treatment.
Through the genetic detection of individuals, we can realize the prediction of many diseases and even provide more profound insights into individual behavior characteristics. For example, in individual genetic testing products, DNA of individual samples is analyzed.
The analysis of data can interpret the risks of cancer, metabolic diseases, mental illness, etc., and can also interpret the information of individual drug adaptability, sports talent, alcohol consumption and so on. As millions or even tens of millions of individuals around the world have completed the interpretation and analysis of personal genome data, there have been some based on.
Emerging technologies with more striking DNA information, such as DNA criminal investigation and new drug prediction, have made revolutionary progress in these fields. We have also ushered in a revolutionary era brought by DNA data.
5. Nucleic Acid Drugs
In the field of new drug research and development, targeted therapy for target protein has become the mainstream, and gene therapy for DNA mutation is also in full swing. As a bridge between gene and protein, mRNA.
More and more attention has been paid in recent years. In addition, scientists also found that there is a unique gene silencing mechanism in eukaryotic cells, which can resist the invasion of foreign substances, protect the stability of genetic information, and regulate various functions of organisms, also known as
RNA interference (RNAi) phenomenon.
The RNAi mechanism was first discovered by Professor Andrew Z.Fire and Professor Craig C.Mello in 1998, and was recognized by Science in 2002.
The magazine ranked first among the top ten scientific achievements and won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2006. The discovery of RNAi has greatly broadened the source and development direction of human drugs. Today, with
Oligonucleotide drugs based on siRNA (small interfering RNA) and miRNA (microRNA), and mRNA therapeutic drugs, mRNA vaccines and CRISPR RNA.
Mainly ribonucleic acid drugs, together constitute the nucleic acid drugs.
A large number of studies show that nucleic acids and their degradation products and derivatives have good therapeutic effects, and we are also welcoming a new era of mRNA drugs and RNAi drugs. In theory, nucleic acid drugs can achieve irreplaceable effects of traditional drugs. Like small molecular drugs, they can play a role in cells, even affect the nucleus and have precise targeting. They are also very advantageous for some single-gene disease nucleic acid drugs. In the era of global precision medicine, diseases caused by different gene differences or abnormal expression can theoretically be individually developed by nucleic acid drugs.
6. Brain science and brain-computer interface.
Brain science is the "ultimate territory" for human beings to understand natural phenomena and human beings themselves, and brain science research is also called "the ultimate challenge for human beings to understand nature and themselves". In recent years, countries all over the world have launched their own "brain plans", and their goals can be summarized as follows: (1) analysis of the neural basis of various brain functions; Using the new information obtained from neural circuit research, develop new methods for effective diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases; Carry out brain-like research inspired by brain science and promote the progress of a new generation of artificial intelligence technology.
With the emergence of new technologies such as brain imaging, biosensing, human-computer interaction and big data, brain science and brain-like research are increasingly becoming one of the key scientific fields that countries around the world are scrambling to study. Under the impetus of "Brain Project", some exciting applications are expected to appear in the field of "brain science", including brain like computing system, brain-computer interface and a new model of brain-computer fusion, and it is expected to promote the development of brain disease diagnosis and treatment, artificial intelligence and other fields.
7. Smart Medical Care
In the future, the medical industry will integrate more artificial intelligence, sensing technology and other high technologies, so that medical services will move towards real intelligence and promote the prosperity and development of medical undertakings. Artificial intelligence has played an important role in the medical field, such as medical image recognition, biotechnology, auxiliary diagnosis, drug research and development, nutrition and other fields, and will change medical methods and even medical models.
By 2025, the total value of the world artificial intelligence market will reach 1270.
Among them, the medical industry will account for 1/5 of the market size, and medical AI will become one of the most important application scenarios of artificial intelligence. On the other hand, data, as an important support of artificial intelligence, has become the key content of smart medical construction and development. The emergence of a new generation of communication technology and the development of Internet of Things chip technology have also promoted the great commercialization of mobile medical equipment, especially all kinds of intelligent devices, sensors and other medical and health equipment, which mainly monitor health such as exercise, heart rhythm and sleep.
8. Non-Invasive Early Diagnosis.
In recent years, in the direction of tumor diagnosis, with the continuous development of genome sequencing technology, tumors are circulated in peripheral blood.
Liquid biopsy with DNA(ctDNA) as the main marker has become the most potential technique for early accurate diagnosis of tumors.
Liquid biopsy based on gene imaging and sequencing methods can identify and monitor tumors in the early stage, artificial intelligence and the application of gene big data. Combined with liquid biopsy, it provides an effective early screening method for most cancers and provides clues for early diagnosis of cancer, accurate determination of cancer types, prediction of cancer spread and prognosis management.
9. Synthetic Biology Technology.
In essence, a computer is a machine that can process information through certain algorithms. The more powerful the computer circuit, the more complex calculations and algorithms can be carried out. Similarly, cells can be transformed by genetic engineering like a mini-computer. The more complex the circuit, the stronger the computing power.
As the third biotechnology revolution, synthetic biology, which was born in the early 21st century, has brought subversive changes to human social life. Artificially designed cells will be able to deliver drugs to patients regularly in vivo; The sex of silkworm, mosquito and other insects can be controlled by genetic design; Gene editing can double the speed of breeding … These are magical changes brought by synthetic biology.
In recent years, with the continuous innovation of genome editing technology such as CRISPR, as well as the equally rapid development of big data, artificial intelligence and robotics, the prospect of synthetic biology has become more and more clear, and the industrialization of synthetic biology has ushered in an explosive period.
10. Single-cell Multiomics.
Cells are the basic units that constitute the structure and function of life. Different types of cells have different shapes and functions. Even if the cells of the same kind seem to be the same, there are extensive cell heterogeneity among them. The early average data obtained based on population cell analysis often ignored the differences among cells.
With the development of cell separation and next-generation sequencing, researchers can study DNA, RNA, protein and chromatin of a single cell. Scientists have begun to combine multi-layer information with single-cell resolution to reveal single-cell genome, transcriptome, methylation, protein omics and other data.
In 2009, the first single-cell transcriptome sequencing technology appeared; Single cell genome sequencing technology appeared in 2011; In 2013, single cell genome-wide DNA methylation detection technology appeared. Subsequently, scientists continued to optimize and improve cell sorting technology, nucleic acid amplification technology, signal-to-noise ratio improvement, etc., and further created sequencing and analysis technologies at different levels of single-cell omics.
Single-cell omics technology allows us to identify specific cells and their functions more clearly, and can provide unprecedented clinical and scientific research data, helping scientists to understand the physiological and pathological mechanisms of organisms more accurately and deeply, such as the differentiation of stem cells, the development of nerve cells, the pathological mechanism of cancer cells, the function of immune cells, etc., and provides guidance for the formulation of individualized precision medical programs.
Jason Pontin, senior partner of Flagship Pioneering, explained the top ten technology trends one by one.
Mr. Jason Pontin is currently a famous biomedical venture capital firm in Boston, Flagship Pioneer.
Senior partner, mainly responsible for the company’s strategic communication and the construction of enterprise entrepreneurship ecosystem. He is also a famous American opinion leader in science and technology. Mr. Jason Pontin from 2005 to 2017
Years in the MIT Technology Review (MIT Technology

Jason Pontin introduced 11 kinds of technology trends that he is concerned about, the first of which is CRISPR. Jason
Pontin thinks that CRISPR is like a gift from heaven, full of sci-fi significance, but at present, we can’t master this technology, and it may be another 40 years before we can know the secret and core of CRISPR. Jason also expressed his views on the previously concerned baby event of gene editing. He thinks that people pay too much attention to the baby of gene editing of CRISPR. At present, it is uncertain about the consequences that knocking out CCR5 gene will bring to human body, but he believes that with the passage of time, there will be a relatively reasonable framework and policies.
Jason
Pontin also put forward a new direction of gene editing, that is, combining stem cells with gene editing, for example, inducing easily obtained somatic cells back to differentiated stem cells, which is safer and more controllable and has great potential in clinic.
Meanwhile, at DeepTech,
At the 2019 Life Science Forum, Zhao Ruilin, a partner of Chende Capital, shared possible hot spots in biomedical investment in the next three to five years. Zhao Ruilin believes that the application of AI+ big data, early cancer screening, gene therapy, consumer-oriented gene sequencing and surgical robots will become hot spots for investment in the next three to five years.
At the same time, Zhao Ruilin also pointed out that several medical big data companies can not succeed in a day or two. The capital market is also a test of who can get to the end. Everyone sees the prospect of big data applications, but how can we get to the end? How can we get to the day when gold is dug up? This is something that everyone should consider. For early screening of cancer, Zhao Ruilin believes that the fundamental principle of imaging technologies such as MRI and CT is that I want to see cancer. And what is cancer early screening instead of imaging technology? In the future, when molecular diagnosis is really powerful, when there are no image markers, we can already detect cancer. Of course, this is a vision, and we have to achieve this goal.

Wang Liqun, president of Fosun Kaite Biotechnology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech at the meeting. He said that China still faces many challenges in the industrialization of CAR-T therapy. We don’t have to worry about being too far behind foreign countries, but don’t blindly think that we are the first.
Dr. Wang Liqun said that we still have a lot to improve in terms of technology, quality, time, production capacity and cost. For example, whether the technology can be better, whether the cost can be lower, how to overcome these tumors and microenvironment, including the inhibition of solid tumors to make another product, and commercial applications, there are many things to be explored and tried, but in the end we have to return to our original intention, and how to really use a good product to treat our patients.
At the same time, he also mentioned that many media said that China is the world’s number one in CAR-T, and in clinical research, our clinical data is more than that of the United States, which is a wrong concept. Clinical trials in the United States are supervised clinical trials, while most of the data reported in China are not supervised, which is quite different. We can’t be so hot-headed that we think that CAR-T is the first because we have done more clinical projects. Dr. Wang Liqun said that he hoped that China could attach importance to the supervision of CAR-T as a drug, which was beneficial to the development of the whole industry. CAR-T is revolutionary as a means of tumor treatment. Everyone is at the same starting line. We don’t have to worry about being too far behind foreign countries, but don’t blindly think that we are the first.

In the afternoon round-table discussion, Yang Fang, a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers Capital Markets, answered the question of how to treat medical data sharing. She believed that the future was bright and the process was painful. China is a big country of medical data, but the systems used in each hospital are not necessarily the same, and the data structures are also different. It takes a lot of time and energy to make these unified structured data. But the final prospect is definitely bright, but it will take a lot of time and energy before reaching that line.

Chen Xu said that this list should highlight not only the achievements of scientists and entrepreneurs, DeeTech.
It is also hoped that through the presentation of innovative figures, the possible path of future development in the field of life sciences can be described more vividly and located more accurately.
Cong Le, a young scientist who brought CRISPR gene editing technology to the human gene world, cut CRISPR/Cas for the first time.
The system was upgraded to the gene editor "Swiss Army Knife" CRISPR-dCas.
Lei Lei, an associate professor of bioengineering at Stanford University, and Shao Yangyang, a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, who created the world’s first single chromosome eukaryotic cell, won this award. The ten winners were respectively
Ten technical trends in life sciences in 2019 shared their views, and Shao Yangyang, Wang Yanli and others also shared the innovation achievements in their respective fields at the forum.
From gene magic scissors, gene erasers edited by single base to today’s "Swiss Army Knife", the field of gene editing has been transformed and turned upside down in recent years. For one of the top ten technical trends in the field of life sciences in 2019,
CRISPR Toolkit, according to Qi Lei, "In CRISPR based on bacterial sources.
In the gene editing system, we acquire and enrich this toolkit by enhancing the function and activity of the corresponding proteins, and realize safer and more effective gene regulation. The appearance of these tools not only provides a brand-new scheme for future genetic engineering and treatment, but also provides a powerful tool for the comprehensive study of genes and their importance in life. We are very much looking forward to it.
CRISPR toolkit can continuously create miracles in both research tools and therapeutic applications for the benefit of mankind. "
The creation of the world’s first eukaryotic cell containing only a single chromosome marks a milestone in China’s synthetic biology! As the implementer of this great achievement, Dr. Shao Yangyang mentioned in his keynote speech that the three-dimensional structure of yeast cells’ sixteen chromosomes has changed dramatically after they were merged into one, but the transcription group and phenotype group of cells have not changed much, which subverts the traditional idea that the three-dimensional structure of chromosomes affects gene expression. This is also the first time to explore the relationship between the evolution of higher organisms and the structure and function of chromosomes through synthetic biology. Moreover, a series of yeasts with decreasing chromosome numbers constructed in the process of gradually merging sixteen chromosomes into one are undoubtedly valuable materials for studying telomere-related aging and cancer.

Kong Lingjie, an associate professor of precision instruments in Tsinghua University, analyzed brain science in his keynote speech. He said that brain science still faces many challenges at present. In the field of cerebral cortex, it is urgent to upgrade the existing imaging technology and pursue a wider, deeper and faster imaging technology. Kong Lingjie team developed deep tissue imaging technology and three-dimensional high-speed microscopic imaging technology, and recently cooperated with Academician Dai Qionghai of Tsinghua University to realize large-scale, high-resolution and real-time dynamic imaging. By applying the new technical means to science, we can observe the neural activity in a specific behavior pattern, infer the functional connection and structural connection of neurons, statistically analyze the information processing mechanism of brain neural network, and apply the above information to the development of new artificial intelligence technology to promote the development of artificial intelligence.

Xinhua News Agency, Washington, October 19 (Reporter Xiong Maoling) In a speech at the New York Economic Club on October 19, US Federal Reserve Chairman Powell hinted that the Fed may continue to suspend interest rate hikes at the next monetary policy meeting.
Powell said that the significance of raising interest rates is to affect the financial situation, and the recent increase in the yield of long-term US government bonds is leading to the tightening of the financial situation, so it is necessary to observe the next development trend.
On the same day, the yield of 10-year US Treasury bonds once rose to nearly 5%, a 16-year high.
Powell said that although the inflation level in the United States has dropped significantly, it is still significantly higher than the Fed’s long-term target of 2%. It is estimated that the core personal consumption expenditure price index will rise by 3.7% in September. He said that it remains to be seen whether the inflation level can continue to decline towards the target, which also means that the Fed will still keep the option of raising interest rates further.
Since the beginning of this interest rate hike cycle in March last year, the Federal Reserve has raised the target range of federal funds interest rate from near zero to 5.25% to 5.5%. Since the beginning of this year, the Federal Reserve has slowed down the pace of raising interest rates. After the monetary policy meeting in June, it announced a moratorium on raising interest rates. In July, it raised interest rates by 25 basis points, and in September, it announced a moratorium on raising interest rates again.
Powell said that a series of uncertainties, old and new, make the task of the Fed to formulate monetary policy more complicated. "Doing too little" may make high inflation deeply rooted, while "doing too much" may cause unnecessary harm to the economy.
The Fed’s next monetary policy meeting will be held from October 31st to November 1st. According to data from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s Federal Reserve Observation Tool on the 19th, the probability that traders predict that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged at its next meeting is as high as 99.6%.
1905 movie network news On December 9th, the film premiered in Beijing, featuring Bo Huang, Wang Luodan, Tan Zhuo and Ke Bai. At the post-screening meeting, a male fan ran to Wang Luodan and took out a small tin box (suspected wedding ring) and knelt down in front of Wang Luodan. Wang Luodan immediately responded by saying "NO", and then repeatedly said "Sorry, you can go" to express his refusal.
Subsequently, the male powder was taken away by the security guards, and Wang Luodan, who stayed on the stage, was so scared that he was livid that he said that he would wait for a while and let the next actor express his feelings first.
It is reported that this is not the first time that Wang Luodan has been publicly proposed by male fans. On the red carpet of Changchun Film Festival last year, Wang Luodan was also presented with flowers and proposed by male fans who suddenly walked to the red carpet. At that time, Wang Luodan also calmly communicated with him and declined the movie fan. (The picture is from a video screenshot)
On November 12th, local time, officials from the diplomatic departments of the United States, India, Japan and Australia held a formal meeting during the APEC Leaders’ Informal Meeting in Vietnam.
As early as October, US Secretary of State Tillerson delivered her first policy speech on India at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), an American think tank, which mentioned that "we are benefiting from the important trilateral relationship between the United States, India and Japan. And when we look to the future, there is still room for inviting others, including Australia, to join in building our common goals and initiatives. " This meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam is also the first communication between the four countries since the US government put forward the "four-way relationship".
It is worth noting that this meeting did not issue a formal joint communique, statement or press release, but released the results of the meeting in the form of their own announcements. The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) compared the four versions of conference news released by the State Council, Indian Foreign Ministry, Japanese Foreign Ministry and official website of Australian Foreign Ministry, and found that the similarities and differences among them were quite noteworthy.
The American version is the longest and the Japanese version is the shortest.
Only from the English version, the news version published by the State Council in the United States is the longest, with 158 English words. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the shortest version, with only 123 words, including three complete sentences.
Among them, the Australian version of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is almost identical to that of the State Council, USA, only a few words are replaced by synonyms, and the total length is very close (157 words).
This may be related to the close relationship between Australia and the United States. As one of the oldest allies of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region, Australia fought side by side with the US military in the Pacific battlefield as early as World War II. After World War II, the United States and Australia signed the Pacific Security Treaty in 1951, which established a military alliance between the United States and Australia, nine years earlier than the security treaty between the United States and Japan and two years earlier than the security treaty between the United States and South Korea. After entering the 21st century, Australia has actively sent troops to participate in the American-led wars against Afghanistan, Iraq and the extremist organization "Islamic State".
The theme of the meeting: Japan pays more attention to "measures"
According to news from the State Council, the theme of the meeting was "a common vision for enhancing prosperity and security in a free and open Indian Ocean-Pacific region".
This theme has basically been echoed by other three of the four countries. Among them, Australia is the closest to the United States. In the news released by the Australian Foreign Ministry, the expression of the theme of the meeting is completely consistent with that of the US.
The version of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the participants discussed "relevant measures to ensure a free and open order based on the rule of law in the Indian Ocean-Pacific region". It can be found that, unlike the "shared vision" in which the United States and Australia emphasize relative retreat, Japan places more emphasis on the "measures" involved in the meeting.
It is worth noting the statement of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the news released by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the main content discussed by all parties is "issues of common interests in the Indian Ocean-Pacific region", and the words "freedom" and "openness" are not emphasized. It was only in the penultimate paragraph that the specific contents of the talks were introduced that "all parties agreed that a free, open, prosperous and inclusive Indian Ocean-Pacific region is in the long-term interests of all countries in the region and beneficial to the world as a whole."
The focus of the discussion is different from each other.
In the editions published by the Foreign Ministries of the State Council and Australia, the specific connotation of "a free and open Indian Ocean-Pacific region" is introduced in detail, which is divided into four aspects: first, supporting "rule-based order" in the region, including safeguarding freedom of navigation and flight, respecting international law and peacefully resolving disputes; Second, to strengthen the degree of regional interconnection, the premise is "in line with international law and standards" and based on "prudent financing"; Third, strengthen anti-terrorism and maritime security cooperation; Fourth, strengthen cooperation in the field of curbing nuclear proliferation.
In the statement of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the contents of the first three aspects are very brief, but the issue of curbing nuclear proliferation is emphasized. Japan refers to nuclear proliferation as "threat", while the United States refers to it as "nuclear program and illegal activities" and India refers to it as "nuclear proliferation in affected areas".
In addition, Japan also stressed that in order to deal with this "threat", "maximum pressure should be given", which does not exist in the versions of the other three countries.
Compared with the versions of the United States, Australia and Japan, the version of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is relatively vague in introducing the contents of the talks, and pays more attention to the consensus in principle among all parties. "The common vision and values of (participants) are to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the (Indian Ocean-Pacific region), which is shared by all parties and other partners and is increasingly interconnected. The discussion at the meeting focused on cooperation based on this common vision and values."
Among the four points mentioned in the American and Australian versions, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs only briefly mentioned the topic of maritime security and non-proliferation at the bottom of the news, and did not mention the name of any particular organization or country. There is no direct mention of "supporting rule-based order" in the first place in the American version.
In addition, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that during the talks, India emphasized that the "Act East Policy" was a "turning point" for India to participate in Indian Ocean-Pacific affairs. This is also the only meeting content mentioned by India and not mentioned by other parties.
Trump administration’s new Asian policy?
Just two days ago at the APEC Business Leaders Summit, US President Trump repeatedly mentioned the term "India-Pacific" in his speech. In his speech, Trump appreciated the efforts of Vietnam and other countries to implement an open economy and proposed to establish a "new partnership" with Asia-Pacific countries. Its characteristics include "respecting sovereignty and independence", "based on fairness and reciprocity", "everyone should abide by the rules" and "investment led by private enterprises rather than government plans".
Trump said that those countries that are willing to follow these standards will become partners of the United States, and for those countries that are unwilling to do so, "the United States will no longer turn a blind eye."
The American "Diplomatic Scholar" magazine published on the 11th that in Vietnam, the fourth stop of Trump’s five-nation Asian tour, Trump finally put forward his new Asian policy. However, it seems that Trump’s "free and open Indian Ocean-Pacific region" is neither free nor open unless American partners take on more responsibilities.
"The so-called quadrilateral mechanism looks lively, but there are many disagreements." Zhang Jiadong, director of the Institute of South Asian Studies at Fudan University, had previously analyzed The Paper. "First of all, India and the United States have different expectations of this mechanism: India wants to win over the United States to counter the’ threat’ from China and maintain its hegemonic position in South Asia and the Indian Ocean, while the United States does not want any country in the world to have this position in any region. There is no intersection of power between India and Japan, and the strategic synergy can only be formed through the United States, which will lead to the cooperation mechanism being dominated by the United States, which does not meet the needs of India to become a regional power. As for Australia, it has interests in both the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, and it does not want an Indian Ocean dominated by India. "
Long Xingchun, director of the Indian Studies Center of China West Normal University and a senior researcher at the Chahar Institute, told the The Paper that the cliché s about "rules" and "China Unicom meeting international standards" emphasized by the United States clearly pointed to China’s South China Sea policy and the "Belt and Road Initiative". But from India’s point of view, it is not in its own interest to follow these arguments completely. “
Although India regards China as a potential strategic opponent, after all, it is adjacent to China, and its comprehensive national strength is still far behind that of China, "Long Xingchun said." If you fully accept the arguments of the United States and Japan, it is equivalent to taking the risk of damaging Sino-Indian relations, which is not worth the loss for India. "
Recently, Japan and the United States have repeatedly mentioned the India-Pacific strategy, expressing the hope to promote the four countries of Japan, America, India and Australia to build a leader-level strategic dialogue mechanism. China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a regular press conference on October 13th that it is the common responsibility of all countries in the Asia-Pacific region to promote stability and prosperity. China hopes that the policies formulated and actions taken by all parties concerned will conform to the trend of the times of peace, cooperation, friendship and development and be conducive to maintaining and promoting regional peace, prosperity and stability.
Geng Shuang emphasized that all parties can put forward their own ideas and ideas on how to promote regional cooperation. The relevant ideas and propositions put forward should be open and inclusive, and should be conducive to promoting win-win cooperation between all parties and avoiding politicized and exclusive arrangements.
In the past, "people can’t help themselves when they reach middle age, and they soak Lycium barbarum in a thermos cup". Now, Lycium barbarum latte has become a hot item in coffee shops. With the pursuit of young people, Beijing Youth Daily reporter noticed that there are more and more restaurants in Beijing that offer medicinal food dishes. Not only that, some tea-substitute prescriptions are even more popular online, with monthly sales of dampness-removing tea and sleep tea reaching hundreds of thousands.
Young people’s daily health medicated diet and tea substitute "out of the circle"
A cup of Lycium barbarum latte in the morning and a cup of Siraitia grosvenorii American at noon must be Dangshen black chicken soup &hellip in the evening; … Nowadays, some young people incorporate health-preserving medicated diet into their daily recipes.
The reporter of Beiqing Daily noticed that this summer, "going to Chinese pharmacy with sour plum soup" caused a trend on social media. The "out of the circle" of sour plum soup seems to be accidental, but some Chinese medicine hospitals have counted the age composition of patients and found that 90% of patients are between the ages of 18 and 65, of which young people under 45 account for more than half.
Relying on being healthier, purer, and able to take medical insurance, the status of medicated diet and Chinese medicine instead of tea in the hearts of young consumers has risen with the trend. The reporter of Beiqing Daily found that medicinal food is no longer an unpopular food in Beijing. Apart from some medicinal food restaurants with the background of Chinese medicine halls or pharmacies, ordinary restaurants and even hot pot restaurants have also added "medicinal food" dishes, such as five-finger peach medicinal food pigeon, perilla astragalus roast duck, dried tangerine peel hoof and medicinal food pot bottom.
This is not the first time that a medicated diet or a traditional Chinese medicine tea substitute has gone out of the circle. As early as the end of 2019, Beijing Tongrentang launched Zhima Health. Nowadays, not only do you know how to be healthy, but Chinese medicine+coffee, Chinese medicine+milk tea, and even the directly prescribed tea substitute stores have a group of loyal users.
The reporter of Beiqing Daily found on the e-commerce platform that tea substitute is already a big category, and most of them have the functions of nourishing liver, eliminating dampness, nourishing lung, dispelling fire, protecting throat and helping sleep. In the list launched by an e-commerce platform, the top ten "tea substitutes" have sold at least 100,000 orders, and the most have sold more than 800,000 orders.
Medicinal diet is not a "panacea", it should be moderate.
The reporter of Beiqing Daily noticed that most of these tea substitutes are common materials such as red beans, coix seeds, chrysanthemums, gorgons, longan, red dates, medlar, and some Chinese herbal medicines such as Polygonatum, Epimedium and Eucommia ulmoides.
In this regard, some Chinese medicine practitioners said that at present, according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine and nutrition, it can be considered as a "clinical medicated diet" by matching Chinese medicine with some foods with medicinal value according to the patient’s situation. At present, some so-called "medicated diets" on the market only use some materials with the same origin of medicine and food. Health medicated diet ’ It has not been consulted by a doctor, and it is not targeted. There is basically no clear therapeutic effect, but it may have some health care effects. "
The Chinese doctor also said that even for the health-preserving medicated diet, Chinese herbal medicines with the same origin of medicine and food must be selected. At the same time, consumers themselves should have certain knowledge of health and Chinese medicine, and they can refer to some widely used eating methods and habits. "For example, if you have judged that you are getting angry, don’t eat some nourishing medicinal meals. Even if you confirm that you are suitable for a certain medicinal diet, you should be moderate. "
The expansion of the catalogue of "homology of medicine and food" is beneficial to the medicinal diet industry
Recently, the National Health and Wellness Commission and the General Administration of Market Supervision jointly issued an announcement to include nine substances, including Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus, Ganoderma lucidum and Gastrodia elata, in the list of substances that are traditionally both food and Chinese herbal medicines. Some analysts said that once Chinese herbal medicines were included in the "homology of medicine and food" catalogue, it would mean that there would be more medicinal food, food, herb tea and other traditional Chinese medicine health products.
National Health Commission said that this time, nine kinds of substances, such as Codonopsis pilosula, were fully considered for their traditional consumption in China, local demand and international management experience, and were determined through comprehensive demonstration through production and operation pilot and risk monitoring. In November 2019, National Health Commission and the General Administration of Market Supervision jointly issued a notice to allow nine substances, including Codonopsis pilosula, to carry out pilot work on the production and operation of edible and medicinal substances. On this basis, Inner Mongolia, Zhejiang, Guizhou and other provinces have worked out in detail the work plan to carry out pilot production and operation. Up to now, there are more than 2,000 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines listed in China Pharmacopoeia, but only about 100 kinds have entered the "homology of medicine and food" catalogue.
According to "2022— The Report on Panoramic Survey and Development Prospect of the Medicinal Diet Industry in China in 2027 shows that the market size of the medicinal diet industry in China is about 169.9 billion yuan, up by 10.97% year-on-year. In recent years, the medicinal diet industry has grown well, maintaining a high growth rate on the whole, and the industry has a good development capability. According to incomplete statistics, there are about 78,600 enterprises involved in medicated diet, which are mainly distributed in industries such as medicated diet, herbal tea, medicinal liquor, solid ointment, traditional Chinese medicine granules, Chinese patent medicines and health care products.
