The National Development and Reform Commission revisited the "height limit order": China will no longer build tall buildings over 500 meters.

Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) raised the height limit again, and no new buildings over 500 meters were allowed to be built. Today, related topics rushed to the hot search list.

Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "Implementation Plan for New Urbanization in the 14th Five-Year Plan", which clearly stated that the construction of super-high-rise buildings should be strictly restricted, and no new buildings over 500 meters should be built. Moreover, in the plan, strict restrictions are also proposed for new buildings over 250 meters.

It is worth noting that there are currently 10 tall buildings over 500 meters in the world. The United States, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates each have a building with a height of over 500 meters, and the remaining six buildings are all from China, namely Shanghai Tower, Ping An Financial Center, Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Financial Center, Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Financial Center and CITIC Building.

The NDRC revisited the height limit order.

Ultra-high buildings have been popular and once considered as one of the main signs to judge economic development, but they also have problems such as high maintenance costs.

On July 12 this year, the National Development and Reform Commission published the Notice of the National Development and Reform Commission on Printing and Distributing the Implementation Plan of New Urbanization in the 14th Five-Year Plan, which clearly pointed out that new super-high-rise buildings should be strictly restricted, no new buildings over 500 meters should be built, and new buildings over 250 meters should be strictly restricted.

Previously, on June 19, 2021, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the Notice of the National Development and Reform Commission on Strengthening the Management of Infrastructure Construction Projects to Ensure the Safety and Quality of Projects. Article 3 of the notice points out that for buildings over 100 meters, the examination and approval system for seismic fortification of out-of-code high-rise buildings should be strictly implemented, which is suitable for the scale and spatial scale of the city and the ability of fire fighting and rescue; Strictly restrict the construction of new buildings over 250 meters, and if it is really necessary to build, it is necessary to review the construction plan in combination with special arguments such as fire protection and report it to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development for the record; No new super high-rise buildings over 500 meters shall be built.

In fact, in 2020, official website, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, put forward the requirement that "buildings exceeding 500 meters should not be built in general".

Domestic buildings exceeding 500m: 6 in total.

At present, there are 6 high-rise buildings over 500 meters in China, one of which has been capped, but it has not been built for many years.

The tallest building in China is Shanghai Center, with a total of 119 floors and a height of 632 meters. It is the first skyscraper in China and the second skyscraper in the world at present. It was started in 2008 and located in Lujiazui Financial District, Pudong, and was completed in 2016. After the completion of Malaysia’s 678.9-meter-high Merdeka 118 building, the world ranking dropped to third place.

The former, with a total of 111 floors, was started in 2009 and capped in 2014. It is the tallest building in Guangzhou and overlooks the skyscrapers of Zhujiang New Town. The latter has a total of 97 floors, nicknamed "Jingubang", and won the Outstanding Award for High-rise Building.

Beijing Zhongxin building

Ranked sixth is Taipei 101 Building, with 101 floors and a height of 508 meters. It is worth noting that Taipei 101 Building is also the first super high-rise building with a height of over 500 meters in the world.

In fact, there is also a super-high building in China-Tianjin Gaoyin 117 Building, which has not been completed yet. In 2015, the main project of this high-rise building was completed, but due to its large scale and insufficient funds, this high-rise building has not been completed yet. It is said that Tianjin Gaoyin Building is 597 meters high, with 117 floors above ground and 3 floors underground.

Netizens generally agree with the height limit order for buildings over 500 meters. Some people think that it is useless for buildings to "grow tall", but they should have a sense of art and design; Some netizens believe that restrictions should have been imposed long ago.

Earlier, Xinhua News Agency’s "Half-monthly Talk" published today entitled "Still keen on skyscrapers? Fever! The commentary of ". The article points out that the problems of super-high-rise buildings are full of risks, such as high life cycle cost, great fire safety hidden danger and certain impact on the environment. According to CCTV’s financial report, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world, needs about 10,000 tons of ice to provide cooling capacity at the peak of cooling demand in summer, and the peak power demand is as high as 36,000 degrees, which is equivalent to lighting 360,000 100-watt light bulbs at the same time.

At the end of the commentary, "Half-monthly Talk" also pointed out that "although the construction of skyscrapers can reflect the economic level of the city, it should be scientifically guided. Spatial planning should be based on "one city, one policy", instead of blindly comparing and blindly pursuing "the best in the world" and "the tallest building". "
